Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established to deliver long-duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that support Queensland's transition to a reliable, affordable and sustainable energy system. In June 2025, oversight of Queensland Hydro was transferred to Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC). Queensland Hydro works closely with QIC, the Queensland Government and other stakeholders to deliver a commercial assessment of the Borumba Pumped Hydro Energy Storage project.

As the Project Manager Engineering and Design, you will play a vital role in shaping a sustainable energy future for Queensland, delivering impactful solutions that benefit our communities and the environment.
What You'll Do
We are seeking a Project Manager to manage and ensure project objectives from the engineering and design team are achieved, this involves all aspects of the project, including scope, budget, schedule, quality, procurement, resources, communications and associated risks. Reporting to the Head of Engineering Design you will operate effectively across different functional groups and divisions to lead independent work packages. Specifically, you will support the management of the ongoing delivery of engineering-related tasks that include Dams, Pumped Hydro Energy Scheme, Exploratory works packages, EIS, Roads and associated support works.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Manage and be accountable for the development of project documentation and package scopes in accordance with the project(s) and entity governance requirements.
- Ensure the development, update, and implementation of the Project and Design Management Plans
- Integration with the Development and Construction teams to ensure communication is transparent and well recorded.
- Manage the development of contract specifications,
conduct tender evaluations and administer contracts with external design, engineering, construction and testing contractors.
- Ensure that all projects are carried out in accordance with standards, policies and practices, particularly those relating to Safety, Environmental, Cultural Heritage, Purchasing and Contract Administration.
- Ensure workplace health and safety is considered holistically as a core part of overall project management.
- Represent the business professionally and ethically in dealings with employees, customers, contractors and suppliers. Ensure legal obligations are met, with particular attention required on safety, environment and cultural heritage compliance.
- Proactively develop and maintain constructive working relationships with team members and key stakeholders, working collaboratively to achieve mutual business outcomes.
Who You Are
To be successful in this position, role, you will bring a tertiary qualification in Engineering and Project Management or certification. Your proven 5-year plus experience to develop structured project execution plans including scheduling, resourcing and communication/engagement will ensure preparation is sufficient to achieve the required outcomes and that planning is aligned with broader organisational objectives.
You will be required to attend our Nambour and Imbil offices on a regular basis and attend the Borumba project site as required, with some overnight stays in camp, as part of Engineering Teams site representation. In addition, you will exhibit:
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects and operational objectives, managing and mitigating risks, monitoring progress,
and effectively engaging resources to achieve required outcomes within agreed budget and timeframes
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of Project Management, financial management, and scheduling tools and applications
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, on cost and proactively communicate potential and actual changes to project requirements
- Ability to liaise with all levels of the business, community, government stakeholders and technical specialists and tailor communication outputs to suit relevant stakeholders
- Client-side project delivery experience through all phases from design, through procurement, delivery, commissioning and operational handover
- Experience in remote working environments, delivering site-based engineering works and understanding of corresponding designs and engineering drawings.
