Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Painter to carry out and oversee painting and surface preparation works across commercial and residential refurbishment projects. The role involves preparing surfaces, applying coatings, and ensuring quality finishes in line with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
The primary duties of this role include:
• Erecting scaffolding, ladders, and elevated work platforms, and placing drop sheets and protective coverings to safeguard flooring,
fixtures, and adjacent surfaces from paint splattering during painting and refurbishment works.
• Preparing a wide range of interior and exterior surfaces including walls, ceilings, timber, steel, and facades by removing old paint, wallpaper, and contaminants, fixing woodwork, filling holes and cracks, sanding, and sealing surfaces to ensure proper surface condition for coating application.
• Selecting and preparing paints, varnishes, stains, and protective coatings to required specifications, including mixing portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying additives for colour matching in accordance with project design requirements.
• Applying paints, varnishes, and protective finishes to various surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment across commercial buildings, refurbishment sites, and occupied facilities, ensuring uniform coverage and quality finish.
• Hanging wallpaper and applying decorative finishes where required, ensuring accurate pattern matching, alignment, trimming, and finishing suitable for interior commercial and residential refurbishment projects.
• Cleaning painting tools, spray equipment, scaffolding, and work areas to ensure safety, efficiency,
and compliance with workplace health and safety and site requirements.
• Repairing windows and replacing glass in wooden and metal frames where required during maintenance or refurbishment works.
• Undertaking surface restoration and touch-up works as part of building maintenance programs, including minor repair of timber and surface defects.
Candidate Requirements
Education
• AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV; or
• At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications.
Experience
• Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience in painting and surface finishing across commercial and residential environments.
Skills and Other Requirements
• Proficient in surface preparation techniques including paint removal, sanding, filling cracks, patching holes, and sealing surfaces.
• Strong knowledge of selecting, mixing, and colour matching paints, varnishes, stains, and protective coatings.
• Skilled in the use of brush, roller, and spray application methods.
• Capable in wallpaper installation and removal.
• Strong understanding and adherence to workplace health and safety (WHS) standards.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to deliver quality finishes.
• Strong time management skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
• Team-oriented with good communication and collaboration skills.
