Principal Software Engineer | Federal Government

Role & Responsibilities
- Strategic Engineering: Plan, lead, and drive software construction and systems design activities for large, complex, and strategic enterprise development projects.
- Technology Roadmapping: Monitor the external setting for emerging technologies, assess organisational impacts, and create future-focused technology roadmaps.
- Capability & Governance: Develop and implement organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for systems integration, software refactoring, and tool adoption.
- Release & Integration Management: Lead systems integration, automation, and continuous integration (CI/CD)
capabilities while ensuring robust post-release reviews and rollback safety.
- Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate requirement-gathering workshops and proactively transfer specialist technical skills and knowledge to departmental staff.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this position, you will ideally bring:
- Technical Toolkit: Advanced capabilities in systems design life cycle models, configuration management tools, systems integration, CI/CD automation pipelines, and emerging technology evaluation.
- Experience: Proven track record leading software construction for strategic-level, complex programmes within large enterprise or government environments.
- Core Capabilities: * Expert ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills to influence senior leadership and gain organisational commitment for technical roadmaps.
- Authoritative advice and guidelines delivery regarding security, privacy, and technical quality targets.
Clearance Requirements
- Security Clearance: Must possess a current Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2) security clearance.
