Ballina News Daily is looking for an experienced editor/journalist to help drive the next stage of growth for our independent digital newsroom.
We are seeking someone with strong daily news experience, excellent news judgment and a passion for local journalism. The role involves editing and publishing stories, mentoring contributors, helping manage editorial workflows and identifying opportunities for strong local coverage and breaking news.
While the role can largely be performed from home, applicants should ideally live in or close to Ballina Shire and be available to attend events, interviews or breaking news situations when required.

Key responsibilities
Editing and publishing news stories
Providing editorial guidance to part time contributors
Writing and updating stories as required
Assisting with daily news planning and editorial priorities
Publishing content using WordPress
Monitoring breaking news and community issues
Occasionally attending events, council meetings or breaking news situations
Helping maintain Ballina News Daily’s editorial standards and tone
Skills and experience
Experience in journalism, preferably daily news reporting or editing
Strong writing, editing and headline-writing skills
Sound understanding of news values and deadlines
Experience with WordPress or digital publishing platforms
Ability to work independently and remotely
Strong communication and organisational skills
Familiarity with the Ballina/Northern Rivers region highly regarded
Photography, social media or multimedia skills an advantage
