**About the role**:
The Social Worker Team Leader at John Hunter Hospital plays a crucial role in managing the Social Work Team within the Division of Medical & Interventional Services. You will oversee daily team operations, provide supervision and mentorship, and support professional development for approximately 15 FTE, including early career Social Workers (levels 1-2) and experienced level 3 and 4 Senior Clinicians.





As a fast-paced tertiary referral and teaching hospital, JHH requires the Team Leader to manage planned and unplanned leave effectively to minimise disruptions to patient care while actively participating in direct clinical work. The department fosters the growth of early career social workers, offering opportunities to enhance their skills and interventions. You will collaborate closely with the Service Manager of Social Work and senior leadership within the department.

Communication is a key priority in the Social Workers in Medicine (SWIM) Team, which operates across four sites, making effective teamwork essential. The clinical workload for the Team Leader will be negotiated by the Service Manager based on experience and interest. You will receive support from the Service Manager, fellow Social Work Team Leaders, and level 4 staff, with individual development plans tailored to your career goals and expertise.

**Requirements**:





- Must hold a degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
- Willingness and ability to actively participate in the after-hours / weekend on call roster covering the John Hunter Hospital and John Hunter Children’s Hospital.
- Eligible to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes.
