The Role
The Joint Logistics Unit East (JLU-E) is seeking a capable and motivated APS 5 Logistics Officer to join the Inventory Planning team within the Logistics Services Branch (LSB) at Moorebank. This role supports the delivery of logistics services including warehousing, distribution, and inventory management to JLU-E and the broader Defence community within a complex and integrated supply chain setting.

As an APS 5 Logistics Officer, you will apply logistics knowledge to support inventory planning activities, coordinate with Defence stakeholders and industry partners, and contribute to procurement and stock management processes in accordance with Defence policies, procedures, and governance requirements.

The role requires sound judgement in interpreting policies and procedures, and the ability to provide accurate and timely advice on logistics and inventory-related matters. You will contribute to the development and continuous improvement of logistics processes, including inventory planning, discrepancy management, and stock optimisation to support capability and sustainment outcomes across the organisation.

You will manage and resolve routine to moderately complex inventory issues, including investigating discrepancies, analysing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) data, and coordinating stakeholder engagement to achieve effective outcomes. This includes maintaining accurate records, managing workflow queues and shared mailboxes, and ensuring tasks are completed within required timeframes.

You will also manage a small team, overseeing workloads and supporting team performance, while contributing to inventory procurement activities, reporting, and data analysis. This includes providing day-to-day guidance, mentoring staff, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment while delivering reliable, efficient, and responsive logistics outcomes.

Located within Joint Logistics Unit – East at Moorebank, the Logistics Services Branch offers the opportunity to work with a skilled and dedicated workforce comprising Australian Defence Force (ADF), Australian Public Servants (APS), and Industry Partner staff. Together, the team delivers a critical warehousing, distribution, and inventory management capability as a key contributor to the ADF logistics network. Joint Logistics Unit – East is one of Defence’s largest warehousing units, managing approximately 11.5 million items.

Based in Moorebank, we are a fast-paced and evolving logistics organisation with a diverse and integrated workforce of military personnel, public servants, and industry partners. We are committed to supporting our customers by providing quality advice, data-informed insights, and effective inventory planning solutions across multiple areas within Defence.

The Logistics Services Branch focuses on the planning, governance, and assurance of warehousing, distribution, and inventory management services. This includes supporting stock optimisation, maintaining data integrity, and contributing to national high-security item management to ensure Defence capability requirements are met efficiently and effectively.
