About the Position: In the role of Chef at Morning After Espresso & Eats, you will support the Head Chef in delivering exceptional culinary experiences in our busy café kitchen. This position involves assisting with menu development, preparing and cooking a variety of dishes to the highest standards, overseeing kitchen operations during service, and leading the kitchen team to ensure efficiency and consistency. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining our commitment to quality food, cost control, and outstanding customer satisfaction in a fast-paced, community-focused environment. Key Responsibilities: Assist the Head Chef in planning, developing, and seasonally updating menus, including creating new dishes and specials. Prepare and cook menu items to high standards of taste, presentation, and portion control. Oversee kitchen workflow and food preparation during service for timely,



high-quality dishes. Support food cost control, monitor COGS, and minimise waste through stock and portion management. Order, receive, and manage stock, liaising with suppliers. Monitor food quality, freshness, and consistency. Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff. Lead kitchen operations in the Head Chef’s absence. Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, ensuring equipment maintenance. Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and WHS regulations. Implement and improve standard operating procedures. Collaborate with front-of-house staff. Assist with rostering and daily operations. Maintain stock levels of supplies. Uphold professionalism, teamwork, and support business operations. Requirements: Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply. Minimum Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or a higher equivalent qualification (3 years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications). At least 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role. Strong technical skills in food preparation, cooking, menu development, stock management, and food safety compliance. Excellent organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to supervise and mentor staff. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with kitchen and front-of-house teams. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a quick-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and a positive attitude.
