We are looking for a Data Business Analyst to join the Transformation and Technology business unit. This is a key role focused on translating business needs into actionable data and system requirements, ensuring our data solutions are accurate, trusted, and aligned with organisational standards. It is an ideal opportunity for a proactive team member who enjoys mapping complex data flows, documenting specifications, and partnering with stakeholders to solve data management issues at the root cause.

Role: Data Business Analyst

Location: Canberra or Sydney (hybrid)

Job Type: contract - confirmed until Dec 26, ongoing after EOFY approval

Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:

- Requirements & Documentation: Gather and document business requirements and operational processes to support data initiatives, translating business needs into transparent specifications for solution design.

- Data Analysis & Integrity: Analyse and validate datasets to identify management issues, uncover root causes, and provide recommendations to improve data accuracy and integrity.

- Flow Mapping & Lineage: Map end-to-end data flows and lineage across systems to support impact analysis, solution design, and regulatory requirements.

- Workshop Facilitation:



Lead workshops with business and data owners to define Critical Data Elements (CDEs), data controls, quality thresholds, and data interpretations.

- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with data engineers, architects, and product teams to ensure solutions align with strategic objectives and organisational standards.

- Testing & Adoption: Support testing, deployment, and change management by preparing test cases, validating outputs, and ensuring the smooth adoption of new data solutions.

- Governance Support: Develop and maintain data-related policies, standards, and procedural documentation.

Experience:

- Industry Expertise: Business analysis experience, focused on data management, data governance, or a related discipline.

- Industry Knowledge: Experience within the Australian Superannuation or wider Financial Services sector is highly regarded.

- Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in writing SQL queries to extract and validate data, proficiency in BI tools (PowerBI/Tableau), and advanced Excel (lookups, pivots, modelling).

- Core Competencies: Proven ability to map business workflows (current state → future state) and a solid understanding of data modelling fundamentals, CDE concepts, and metadata.

- Communication & Influence: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex data concepts and facilitate productive stakeholder relationships.
