Our client is a premium designer brand and well-established national business with over 20 years of success. The fast-paced Head Office Design Room sits at the heart of the business, driving creativity while working cross-functionally to bring collections to life.
With a central Brisbane based Head Office, we are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager to join the Design Team, reporting to the Creative Director.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the development of seasonal collections including the production of salesman samples, leading the Design Room team, and ensuring adherence to the Design Calendar. The role focuses on Ready to Wear collections, along with any injection capsules, as developed from time to time.
The successful candidate’s key responsibilities are to:
- Manage the Design Room calendar, overseeing design, sourcing, pattern making, and sampling critical timelines
- Co-ordinate fabric sourcing and trims with design team, based on Creative Direction
- Develop and expand knowledge of suppliers by continually researching.
- Manage process for on-time delivery according to Design room Calendar
- Partner with the Production Manager on pricing and development costs to meet production timelines
- Manage the digitisation and colouration of print artwork, collaborating closely with designers
- Communicate specifications to print suppliers to ensure accurate reproduction of print or fabric.
- Oversee the completion of salesman samples required for each collection.
- Collaborate with the Designroom Co-ordinator on style allocation to pattern makers, cutters and sewers.
- Attend fittings to take accurate notes for alterations and pattern changes.
- Lead team to ensure consistency from samples to production quality through review of samples, specification sheets, construction, and grading.
- General design room operations, including equipment ordering and team administration (rosters, leave management)
- Preparing sample budget and report seasonally on results in comparison to the spend.
Specific requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, working for a premium or luxury brand
- Deep knowledge and understanding of garment construction and pattern making
- Be able to combine creative and technical skills
- Be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines
- Be exceptionally well organised
- Computer competency, in Microsoft Office, (Excel, Outlook, Word) for planning, reporting, and communication
- Online research and supplier sourcing across global markets
- Strong Skills in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator for print development, artwork review are preferred
- Strong data management skills, including maintaining accurate records of styles, specs, and development progress
- Hold a fashion design degree from a respected Australian or international institution.
