Our client is a medium sized Federal Government agency that makes a significant contribution to Australians.

This well-regarded Commonwealth agency has offices in both Canberra and Melbourne.

The Opportunity

This position is available as an initial 12 month non ongoing contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. Alternatively, an ongoing EL1 may be considered via an s26 transfer.

You will work closely with an experienced and supportive Director, making this a strong opportunity to further develop your APS career. The department is also known for its flexibility and hybrid working arrangements.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

- Develop, maintain, and deliver timely, high quality and accurate end of month reports for consideration by the Executive Board to support decision making
- Collaborate with team members to understand internal budget allocations and existing system generated reporting templates to produce insightful end of month reports
- Build strong relationships with finance business partners to understand divisional operations and provide meaningful analysis of end of month results at a whole of department level
- Provide strategic advice to the CFO, divisions, and Executive on a range of financial and business issues
- Contribute to the rollout of a new financial management information system, particularly in relation to management reporting deliverables




- Provide input into mid year and annual internal budget setting processes
- Manage a small team within the internal budget function
- Prepare a range of written materials, including reports, ministerial briefs, and departmental briefs

The Ideal Person

Our ideal candidate will likely come from 1 of the following backgrounds:

- An experienced EL1 Internal Budget Officer with strong technical accounting skills and relevant tertiary qualifications
- A consulting background, having worked at Manager level or above within a Big 4 or similar consulting environment, with experience in internal budget or management accounting within the Federal Government

You will demonstrate a proactive approach, valuable communication and problem solving skills, and the ability to influence stakeholders and resolve accounting challenges effectively.

To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian citizen and hold a Baseline security clearance.

Salary / Rate

- $120k - $131k + 15.4% Super
