This part-time chance is a brand new role and will be located at MASP's Pine Avenue office and Chaffey Secondary College.

This is a temporary role up to 31 December 2027.

The Early Intervention Officer supports at-risk children and young people to remain engaged in education and achieve positive outcomes, including improving school attendance, strengthening resilience and prosocial behaviours, creating a sense of belonging and improving peer relationships.

Expected commencing salary of $40.2005 per hour plus statutory superannuation. You also have the option to maximise your income through salary packaging.

This role can involve emotionally demanding situations and exposure to psychological hazards, including client distress, trauma disclosures, and urgent responses. MASP prioritises staff wellbeing by providing supervision, debriefing, reflective practice, safety measures, and access to wellbeing resources. We encourage open communication—raise any concerns with your supervisor, management, or the OHS Committee as soon as possible.

Essential role-specific skills, knowledge and experience

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Social Science, or other relevant tertiary studies, or enrolment in relevant study upon commencement.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of the Victorian education system and community services, including relevant services, support and referral pathways for children and young people, and experience working collaboratively with families/carers and key stakeholders.
3. Highly developed assessment skills,



capacity to apply a range of intervention strategies, effective problem-solving skills, highly developed interpersonal skills.
4. Demonstrated capacity to deliver intensive support, crisis intervention, and assertive outreach using an intersectional and culturally safe approach.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of the social, behavioural, and systemic factors contributing to disengagement from education and involvement in the justice system.
6. Good working knowledge of child and adolescent development theory and practice.
7. Demonstrated ability to successfully build rapport with young people, who present with a range of complex challenges, and to work towards client goals together achieving successful outcomes.
8. Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation and liaison skills and the ability to work with government and non-government organisations, community groups and clients’ families/networks.

Highly desirable role-specific skills, knowledge and experience

1. Experience working in a not for profit / charitable organisation.
2. Experience in case management.
