Join our Parks & Open Spaces unit and play a hands-on role in keeping our parks, gardens and public spaces safe, attractive and well maintained for the community, working outdoors in a varied and active role.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a motivated and reliable team member who enjoys physical, outdoor work and takes pride in delivering high-quality results. You’ll have experience undertaking labouring and horticultural maintenance tasks in a tropical setting and be comfortable operating small plant, tools and vehicles safely. You work well as part of a small team but can also work independently with minimal supervision. Strong communication skills are important, as you’ll regularly interact with members of the public, colleagues and other Council teams, and you’ll have a genuine commitment to customer service. A sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety and environmental considerations in landscape maintenance, along with the physical capacity to perform demanding outdoor work, is essential.
What you’ll be doing
- Establishing, upgrading and maintaining landscaped gardens, lawns, public parks, open spaces and roadside verges
- Undertaking labouring, gardening, mowing, tree maintenance and driving tasks as part of a scheduled works program
- Operating small plant, tools and vehicles safely, including completing daily servicing and safety checks
- Working in an environmentally sensitive manner while maintaining productivity and high standards of workmanship
- Communicating professionally with members of the public and internal stakeholders
- Assisting with the general upkeep of the designated depot
- Capturing required information in Council business systems in line with recordkeeping requirements
- Providing excellent customer service and actively assisting to resolve customer issues
- Undertaking other duties as required to support operational needs
