About the role
The City of Hobart is seeking an experienced Information Asset Lead to ensure Council's information and data are managed as strategic, trusted, and protected organisational assets.
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role provides leadership and oversight across data governance, information and data asset ownership, classification, quality, protection, and lifecycle management. You will work across the organisation to embed strong information and data governance practices into systems, business processes, and decision-making, supporting service delivery, transparency, compliance, and public trust.
This is a key role at the intersection of data governance, information and data protection, privacy, records management, and digital transformation.
About you
You are an experienced information or data professional with robust expertise in information and data governance, protection, and lifecycle management in complex, regulated environments. You understand the importance of information and data as strategic organisational assets and are committed to ensuring they are accurate, accessible, secure, and trusted.
You bring a solid understanding of public-sector obligations, including public records, privacy, information security, and Right to Information requirements, and are confident managing information and data-related risks, including contributing to incident or data breach responses.
Collaborative and pragmatic, you work effectively across technology, records, privacy, risk, legal, and business teams to embed sound information and data practices into systems, projects, and everyday operations. You can translate complex governance concepts into clear, practical guidance and communicate effectively with both senior leaders and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualification or professional certification in one or more of the following:
Information or Records Management
Data Governance or Data Management
Information Technology or Information Systems
A related discipline relevant to information governance.
Desirable qualification:
SFIA Responsibility Level 6: Initiate / Influence - IRMG (L6) — Information Management.
