Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Safety Manager with work in and around Sydney's CBD. The Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing occupational health and safety programs, conducting safety training, and ensuring compliance with Environment Health and Safety standards. The role also involves implementing safety measures to ensure a safe workplace for all. Collaboration with project teams and regulatory bodies will also be key to maintaining a compliant and safety-first work environment.
About the Role
As Safety Manager, you will take ownership of safety performance across the business and work directly with Project Managers, Supervisors, and crews to drive practical, effective safety outcomes.
You will:
- Lead and continuously improve Sydney Civil’s safety systems and procedures
- Be highly visible in the field, engaging directly with crews and frontline leaders
- Drive consistency across multiple concurrent sites
- Lead incident investigations and ensure meaningful learnings are implemented
- Oversee compliance with WHS legislation, codes,
and client requirements
- Support and mentor supervisors and project teams in safety leadership
- Contribute to planning and methodology to eliminate risks before work starts
- Work closely with senior management to embed a proactive safety culture

- Experienced in civil construction (essential)
- A strong communicator who can influence at all levels of the business
- Practical and solutions-focused — not overly reliant on paperwork
- Confident working across multiple sites and managing competing priorities
- Respected in the field and able to hold teams accountable
- Driven to lift standards and challenge the status quo
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in a Safety Manager or Senior Safety Advisor role within civil construction
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation and Australian standards
- Experience working in live environments (roads, public domain, utilities)
- Demonstrated experience improving safety systems and culture
