BHC Creating Liveable Communities

Brisbane City

- Career development – learn from a highly experienced property development team
- Competitive remuneration, flexible work options
- Pipeline of projects (multi residential apartments)

BHC is an independent, not-for-profit developer, owner and manager of affordable and community housing. We provide affordable rental housing to vulnerable members of the community and have a strong growth mindset – we like to push the envelope and are working to substantially grow our portfolio of affordable housing to meet significant community demand. This is rare and exciting opportunity to join us on that journey, to undertake meaningful work, and make a difference. The success of BHC has been largely due to the organisation’s ability to build relationships, source funding, strike entrepreneurial deals, create beautiful homes and deliver outcomes for communities.

The opportunity presents for an Assistant Development Manager to join our Development Team to deliver residential apartment projects (primarily 8+ storeys) across South East Queensland. Our team is fortunate to have been recognised as ‘Team of the Year’ by the Property Council of Australia’s Queensland branch at the 2024 inaugural People in Property awards.

The role will primarily support the Development Managers, and the Head of Development as required, with end-to-end development responsibilities from site identification, acquisition, deal structuring through to detailed design, project delivery and handover to our Operations Team for tenanting and asset management. With a number of exciting acquisitions made over the last 12 months, BHC is well placed to deliver approximately a further 1,000 units over the next four years.

As part of a growing Development team of 15, the role offers the chance to be part of a highly regarded and outcomes focussed team within the broader organisation (headcount of 90+ Brisbane-based staff).

At BHC, we are big on providing a high performing and inclusive team culture and we proactively strive to be an employer of choice, with a highly engaged and skilled workforce. The role presents at a very exciting time of growth as we work to deliver on our two strategic goals of ‘Growing the supply of affordable housing ’ and ‘Supporting residents and communities to thrive ’.

While the position is primarily based in central Brisbane within easy walking distance from Central Station at BHC’s modern offices at 333 Ann Street, a proportion of the week will be spent in the field attending BHC’s buildings and construction sites within driving distance. Access to Company vehicles and Uber for business is available.

As a contemporary organisation that genuinely values the employee experience,

we offer staff the option to work from home up to 2 days per week if desired and practical in their role.

More about the Role and Our Team

In addition to contributing to ensuring that development projects are completed on time, on budget and to a high standard, other key responsibilities include:

- Collaborate effectively across the organisation and with the Development Team colleagues.
- Support the management of projects throughout their entire development lifecycle, addressing the needs of tenants and the BHC Assets and Operations Team ensuring alignment with partnerships, funding commitments, and project feasibilities.
- Prepare budgets, reports, briefs, and memos for review by Development Managers.
- Report regularly to the relevant Development Manager on risks and opportunities.

With BHC’s significant growth mandate, we are looking for candidates who want to contribute to making projects happen and take full responsibility for their success whilst appreciating BHC’s vision and expectations.
