The Office for Safeguarding Services plays a critical role in developing, implementing and strengthening safeguarding standards, policies and practices across the Archdiocese.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Safeguarding Officer to join the Office for Safeguarding Services in a full-time fixed-term capacity (maternity leave cover) through to December 2026.
Reporting to the Director, Office for Safeguarding Services, you will support safeguarding initiatives across the Archdiocese by providing advice, coordinating training, assisting with compliance audits, managing records and supporting safeguarding projects.
This role requires strong communication skills,
sound judgement, high integrity, and the ability to work with sensitive and confidential matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely advice and assistance regarding Archdiocesan safeguarding standards, policies and practices
- Coordinate and assist in delivering safeguarding training (face-to-face and online)
- Support safeguarding compliance audits across parishes and ministries
- Assist in safeguarding projects and policy development initiatives
- Manage the safeguarding database (data entry, reporting, searches and maintenance)
- Draft professional correspondence, briefing notes, reports and documentation
- Manage incoming enquiries and maintain accurate contact records
- Coordinate meetings and provide secretariat support including minute taking
- Support compliance with legislation including Child Protection, Privacy, WHS and Anti-Discrimination obligations
- Uphold the Archdiocese's commitment to safeguarding at all times
About You
- High-level verbal and written communication skills
- Strong administrative capability and attention to detail
- Experience in compliance, legal, regulatory or risk-based environments (desirable)
- Experience delivering workplace training (desirable)
- Sound understanding of Catholic operations and values
- The ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with integrity
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Emotional resilience and empathy
Qualifications & Requirements
- Relevant qualifications in legal, compliance, risk or related fields (desirable)
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (desirable)
- Solid Microsoft Office skills
- Current Working with Children Blue Card
- Current Police Check
- Current Open Driver's Licence (essential)
- Willingness to travel within South East Queensland
- Capacity to work occasional evenings or weekends as required
