The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced individual for the position of Co Manager, Roadhouse. In this role you will provide management of the Warburton Roadhouse.
You will be responsible for overseeing staff and resources to ensure the effective operation of the community's retail store, while providing effective leadership, management, and supervision to employees.
Additionally, this role ensures the Roadhouse operates as a profitable business in compliance with relevant legislation and NG Council Group requirements. Under the guidance of the Community Council, the position implements policies for the running of the Roadhouse, as directed by the Advisor – Community Development (CDA).
The roster Is 12 weeks on and 3 weeks off. You will receive supported accommodation and flights as part of your contract.
Duties:
Store Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the store
- Prepare stock orders using the agreed stock control system, having proper regard
- to stock levels and previous ordering history
- Receive and thoroughly check all goods ordered and received to ensure
- appropriate quality, quantity, and price
- Calculate all sell prices for stock sold in the store according to the agreed markup list
- High value weekly stock takes as defined by the CSM
- Weekly store reports to CSM as defined by the CSM
- Complete quarterly stock takes
- Authorize any payments required by the store, providing all necessary
- documentation, with the co - signature of the person authorized by the employer
- Ensure the security of all monies either by storage in the store safe or by secure
- transport to the aircraft, taking it to the Bank.
Roadhouse Management
- Work for the benefit of the shareholders of Warburton Roadhouse without discrimination, understanding that cultural norms may differ from your own
- Develop budgets and project plans for submission through the CDA to the Community Council for consideration
- Provide advice to, and carry out instructions from, to the Community Council through the CDA concerning the general running and development of the Roadhouse and its enterprises
- Basic mechanical skills and the ability to undertake routine maintenance and troubleshooting on powerhouse generators and bores
- Strive to maintain harmonious relationships between roadhouse staff and the public including local aboriginal people from the Ngaanyatjarra Lands
- Maintain good communications with the Tourism Industry, other Ngaanyatjarra Lands organizations, government agencies, contractors and tourists, to ensure continued and repeat business
- Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of visitor accommodation, amenities, grounds, including all essential service requirements are met
- Ensure that proper accounting and financial systems are maintained to satisfy the financial management and reporting requirements.
Supervision and Training
- Provide supervision of, and management direction to staff
- Maintain a safe environment and encourage safe practices
- Assist the CDA and HR Manager with recruitment and selection of new staff for the Roadhouse
- Oversee the training and development of staff, and in particular, the training needs of
- Aboriginal staff to pursue the organization’s goals of future self-management
- Supervise the effective operation of all points of sale (e.g. checkouts, takeaway, credit sales, fuel),
- Supervise the daily reconciliation of takings with registered sales.

About You:
o 5 years minimum experience in a similar role in a remote community.
o Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of Aboriginal self-determination at
the Community level especially as it relates to management, employment, training and enterprise development.
o Formal training in business management, or an equivalent level of skill attained through significant experience and on the job training.
o Basic knowledge and understanding of aboriginal history, culture and contemporary aboriginal political, social, cultural and economic issues, including the ability to work with and under the direction of traditional Aboriginal people
o Good supervision, problem solving, conflict resolution and team building skills.
o Well-developed organizational and planning skills and the ability to maximize
o employment and training opportunities.
o Demonstrated ability to deliver on the job training to CDP Works Program workers.
o Ability to ensure safe and healthy work practices, including knowledge of relevant
o Occupational Health and Safety principles.
o Well-developed supervision, problem solving, conflict resolution and team building
skills.
o Well-developed organizational, management, and planning skills.
o Excellent numeracy and written and oral communication skills.
o Ability to use stock control, ordering and word processing computer programs.
o The willingness to undertake all duties pertaining to the effective management of the Roadhouse, including cleaning and general maintenance.
o Basic accounting and banking skills.
o Ability to operate and maintain cash registers, store refrigeration and other equipment, and resolve minor faults.
o Ability to apply store pricing policy and financial management procedures.
o Well-developed knowledge of stock control principles.
o Experience in staff management, supervision, and training.
o Experience in managing a roadhouse, store or comparable retail enterprise.
o Previous experience in the tourist and hospitality industry, including food preparation.
o Patience, maturity, and a high standard of personal conduct.
