Cyber Security Specialist

Location: Tamworth, NSW

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

Join our growing IT team as a Cyber Security Specialist responsible for protecting Council's critical data, networks, and systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, document, and implement cybersecurity policies, procedures, and training programs (particularly in a Microsoft environment – Azure, Microsoft 365).
- Monitor security events and respond to incidents.
- Perform cyber tabletop exercises with stakeholders and conduct security reviews.
- Act as the first technical point of contact for escalations and translate complex issues into explicit advice.
- Manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.

Qualifications and Experience

- Degree‑level qualifications in Cyber Security or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Proven ability to develop, document, and implement cybersecurity policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging technologies and cyber threats.
- Experience in Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Commitment to privacy, compliance, and governance standards.
- Ability to work across multiple council venues and maintain confidentiality.
- Current NSW driver’s license.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range:



Grade 16 – $93,519.65 – $101,195.12 per annum plus 12% superannuation for a 35‑hour work week. Salary may be negotiated based on skills and experience.

Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.
