Employment Type: Permanent Part Time & Temporary Full Time (Until June 2027). Position Classification: Registered Nurse. Remuneration: $74,317.94 - $104,336.27 + 12% Super + Salary Packaging. Location: James Fletcher Hospital, Newcastle. Closing: Tuesday, 27 January 2026.
Where you’ll be working: The DACS Intake Team is a small, dynamic unit located on the James Fletcher Campus in Newcastle. Our team works in a supportive, collaborative environment, sharing knowledge and experience to deliver the best care to clients and their families. You’ll join a professional, friendly team that values innovation, respect, and client-centred care.
Responsibilities
- As part of the DACS Intake Team, conduct Drug and Alcohol assessments with clients, primarily via phone, to determine the most suitable services and facilitate referrals.
- Provide guidance and information to clients, families, and carers seeking support for alcohol or other drug concerns.
- Operate Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm (excluding public holidays).
- From day one, be supported by the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), the Intake Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC), the DACS Clinical Nurse Educator, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Receive professional development opportunities, clinical supervision, and access to regular education sessions to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care while building skills in alcohol and other drug nursing.
About You / Qualifications
- You are a compassionate and professional nurse ready to support clients and families navigating alcohol and other drug challenges.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
- Professional, ethical,
and empathetic approach to client care.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to helping clients and families engage with appropriate services.
- Willingness to learn, innovate, and contribute positively to the team.
- Previous experience in alcohol and other drug services is desirable but not essential.
