About the Role

The Senior Development Assessment Planner forms part of our Development and Building team. This team is responsible for the delivery of Development Assessment and Pre-lodgment and specialist advice, Building Code of Australia requirements and Building Certification. The department facilitates quality, compliant, sustainable development across the LGA ranging from established urban areas, through to urban renewal activity centres, future growth areas and environmental sensitive areas.

You will primarily be involved in the direction and control of the development assessment function within the Environment and Planning Directorate, in consultation with and under the guidance of a Coordinator Development Assessment. You will have the opportunity to evaluate significant, large, complex or sensitive developments.

- 1 x Permanent, Full-Time role - 70 hours per fortnight
- Salary from $113,332.82 - $131,313.08 per annum plus 12% superannuation (dependent on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate)

The successful candidate will have

- Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or equivalent
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the Environmental Planning, and Assessment Act 1979 and Regulations,



Environmental Planning Instruments, and Land and relevant Environment Court Principles
- Sound experience in the Land and Environment Court and its applied procedures
- Demonstrated experience in the assessment of complex and/or contentious development applications within Local Government and experience in Local Planning Panels and/or Regional Panels
- Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with the Councillors, the community and other industry professionals
- Ability to manage and work harmoniously with and motivate and support staff
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other Divisions within Council
- Provide quality and timely advice to Council and the public
- Ability to work both individually and in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to present accurate, clear, concise and timely reports on matters affecting the Directorate’s operations relating to both Council delegated matters and external Panels as required
- Proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven organisation and time management skills
- Knowledge and understanding of WH&S; and EEO policies and procedures
- Knowledge and understanding of Local Government
- Eligibility for Membership of the Planning Institute of Australia
