Operations Manager – Electrical Construction

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of our electrical construction business. This role is critical to ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and in compliance with industry standards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction, with specific experience in electrical contracting, and will be confident managing scheduling, finances, people, and systems in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day business operations across multiple electrical projects
- Coordinate labour, materials, and subcontractors to meet project programs
- Manage daily and forward scheduling of electricians and apprentices
- Liaise with project managers, site supervisors, builders, consultants, and clients
- Monitor job progress, productivity, and margins
Financial & Commercial Management
- Oversee invoicing, progress claims, and variations
- Ensure accurate job costing and margin tracking
- Review purchase orders, supplier invoices, and cost allocations
- Assist with forecasting cash flow and project financial performance
Payroll & Workforce Management
- Manage weekly payroll, timesheets, and job allocations
- Ensure compliance with awards, contracts, and Fair Work requirements
- Coordinate onboarding, inductions, and offboarding of staff
- Oversee leave management, performance reviews, and disciplinary processes
HR & Compliance
- Manage employment contracts, policies, and HR documentation
- Ensure WHS compliance across all sites (SWMS, inductions, licences, training)
- Maintain records for licences, tickets, insurances, and certifications
- Assist with recruitment of electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors
Systems & Process Improvement
- Manage and optimise internal systems (e.g. job management, scheduling, payroll software)
- Implement and improve operational processes to increase efficiency and profitability
- Support business growth through structured systems and reporting
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge and understanding of construction operations
- Electrical industry experience is essential (trade background highly regarded)
- Proven experience in an operations, construction management, or senior administration role
- Strong understanding of scheduling, job costing, invoicing, and payroll
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within an electrical contracting business
- Familiarity with construction job management software Simpro
- Familiarity with Xero accounting software
- Strong understanding of WHS and construction compliance requirements

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
