Aboriginal Transitional Centre Worker

Location: Emu Plains and Parramatta

Employment type: Ongoing, Full time

Salary: $84,659 to $ 110,271 pa + Leave Loading + Superannuation

This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Your role

Join us as an Aboriginal Transitional Centre Worker and help female residents successfully transition from correctional living to the community. You’ll provide case management, culturally relevant support, and connect residents with vital services to empower independence and create lasting impact.

What you’ll do

- Deliver case management for allocated residents, ensuring programs are followed and progress is monitored in line with established pathways and principles.
- Maintain safety, wellbeing, and security within the Transitional Centre by adhering to departmental policies and taking prompt action to address any breaches of Centre rules.
- Build professional, trusting relationships with residents, offering objective information, advocacy, and guidance to connect them with community-based government and non-government services.
- Ensure confidentiality by accurately maintaining records related to resident admissions and discharges.
- Support skill development by helping residents rebuild pro-social and daily living skills, preparing them to re-establish relationships and reintegrate successfully into the community.
- Provide crisis intervention and link residents to external welfare, support, and counselling services for appropriate assistance.
- Promote the Transitional Centre’s role and principles within the local community and partner organisations to foster understanding and ongoing support.
- Strengthen relationships with the Aboriginal community and key stakeholders, collaborating with colleagues to deliver culturally relevant program interventions.

What we’re looking for

- Maintain confidentiality and accurate records for resident admissions and discharges.
- Support residents in rebuilding social and housekeeping skills to prepare for reintegration.
- Provide crisis intervention and connect residents with external welfare and counselling services.
- Promote the role and principles of the Transitional Centre within the local community and organisations to build understanding and support.

Essential Requirements:

- Current First Aid Certificate or the willingness to obtain one prior to the commencement of employment.




- Preparedness to undertake shift work in a rotating roster, as required.
- A current Working with Children Check
- Successful completion of the Security Awareness and Management of Female offenders training course.
- Current driver’s licence and preparedness to drive a vehicle in the course of performing the role.
- Formal post-secondary educational qualifications and experience in welfare related work or social science workplace, or significant experience gained by working in that area is highly desirable
- Aboriginality

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.

Confirmation of Aboriginality form

or

Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:

- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
- is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
