Summary
Our client, HCN Civils Pty Ltd, is seeking to add a Civil Construction Tradeworker/Leading Hand to its team in Mitchell Park, SA. Established in 2023, the company is involved in infrastructure and traffic management services and has delivered works across Adelaide. The successful applicant will assist in key telecommunications civil works, ensuring safe and high-quality site operations and compliance with project and safety standards.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with pit and pipe installation, trenching, backfilling and conduit placement for NBN and telecom infrastructure.
- Support fibre, copper and HFC cable hauling, internal wiring and MDU services.
- Carry out network build and removal works in accordance with project plans.
- Operate machinery and tools safely, including hydrovac excavation units and elevated work platforms.
- Perform routine cleaning, checks and basic maintenance of plant and equipment.
- Prepare and set up construction sites, follow NBN designs and engineering drawings.
- Ensure proper trench depth, alignment and compaction for compliance with standards.
- Set up and manage temporary traffic control schemes to maintain public and site safety.
- Assist in coordinating site personnel and subcontractors as directed by the supervisor.
- Record and report daily site activities, progress, incidents and material usage.
- Follow WHS&E; policies, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS),
SOPs and company procedures.
- Use PPE and participate actively in toolbox meetings and safety briefings.
- Support asbestos-related work in line with ACM Class B Non-Friable Licence requirements (when applicable).
- Maintain solid focus on quality, safety, customer satisfaction and compliance with client expectations.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
- Knowledge of NBN and telecommunications civil construction requirements.
- Ability to install pits, pipes, conduits and cable pathways.
- Basic understanding of fibre, copper and HFC cable hauling.
- Skilled in trenching, backfilling, compaction and site levelling.
- Ability to read and follow plans and engineering drawings.
- Experience using hydrovac excavation units and EWPs.
- Safe operation of tools and machinery with basic maintenance.
- Understanding of WHS and safe work procedures (SWMS/SOP).
- Proper use of PPE and hazard reporting.
- Basic awareness of asbestos safety practices.
- Ability to implement traffic control measures.
- Teamwork and co-ordination with subcontractors and site personnel.
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly.
- Adaptability to different locations and site conditions.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Time management and task prioritisation.
- Professional conduct with clients and stake holders.
- Willingness to work in varying weather and terrain conditions.
