About Us
Watershed Farm & Bowness Stud is a large, long standing thoroughbred stud set among rolling hills in the southwest slopes near Young, NSW. Our focus is on the breeding, raising, and preparation of quality thoroughbreds, from mares and foals through to sale ready yearlings and young horses. We take pride in maintaining a professional, supportive environment built on teamwork, high standards of care, and a genuine passion for horses.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced and confident horse handler to join our yearling preparation team in Australia. The role involves hands on work with young thoroughbreds, focusing on their daily care, education, and presentation for major sales.
Key Responsibilities
- Educating and handling weanlings and yearlings to develop calm, confident behaviour.
- Leading, grooming, washing, and preparing horses for parades and sales.
- Assisting with farrier, veterinary, and feed routines.
- Maintaining a clean, organised working environment.
- Working as part of a team to ensure horses are presented and handled to the highest standard.
- Supporting other stud operations when required, including mares, foals, and general horse care during the breeding season.
About You
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with horses and takes pride in producing well educated, confident young stock. You’ll bring a strong work ethic,
positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and contribute within a team.
Essential Attributes
- Proven experience with young thoroughbreds, ideally in yearling preparation or early education roles.
- Confident and secure handling skills with untried or strong young horses.
- A calm, patient approach and excellent attention to detail.
- Physically fit for the rigorous role, reliable, and able to work in a team environment.
- A positive personality, someone who contributes to a friendly, respectful workplace culture.
- Enthusiasm to continue developing your horsemanship and expand your skill set.
