Located 35km to the southeast of Melbourne, Greater Dandenong City Council covers 129 square kilometres and has a population of over 169,000 people. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer will provide strategic leadership across Council's financial, procurement, property and revenue functions, ensuring the organisation remains financially sound, accountable and transparent in the management of public funds. The CFO will be responsible for long‑term financial planning, annual budgeting, financial and management reporting, and the coordination of external audit, shaping Council's fiscal strategy and providing trusted advice to the Executive Team and Councillors.



The role involves leading high‑performing teams, strengthening financial systems and controls, and championing a culture of integrity, customer focus and continuous improvement, ensuring Council is well positioned to meet the needs of a growing and diverse community.

The successful candidate will bring substantial executive experience in financial management and a demonstrated ability to lead high‑performing teams in complex, customer‑focused environments. The candidate will combine deep knowledge of finance with a contemporary, solutions‑oriented mindset that balances compliance, risk and continuous improvement. A CA or CPA‑qualified professional is required. The CFO will work closely with Councillors, the Executive Leadership Team and external auditors to uphold strong financial governance and transparent stewardship of public funds. As a collaborative and influential leader, the CFO will model Council's REACH values, foster a culture of accountability and service excellence, and ensure Council continues to allocate resources wisely and plan effectively for the long‑term needs of the community.
