Temporary Management Accountant for Government with Immediate start

Our State Government client is seeking support from an experienced Management Accountant. With a strong focus on strategic planning and continuous improvement, the company offers a collaborative environment where finance professionals play a key role in supporting informed decision-making and driving organisational success. You'll be part of a team that values innovation, accountability, and professional growth. This position is a temporary 3-month contract with the possibility of extension.
Your current role
The role is responsible for preparing budgets, forecasts, and forward estimates for various cost centres and divisions, while also analysing and monitoring monthly management reports to support internal stakeholders. It contributes to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of management accounting policies, practices, and systems to ensure effective financial planning, oversight, and reporting across the organisation.
What you'll need to succeed
- Develop and implement budget strategies aligned with organisational business plans.
- Coordinate the preparation of budget statements and oversee the development and monitoring of recurrent and capital budgets.
- Prepare cost allocations for service outputs and assist in costing performance indicators for budget statements and annual reports.
- Maintain accurate financial and non-financial data within the Strategic Information Management System (SIMS).
- Review and process end-of-period budget and actual adjustments, ensuring completeness and accuracy of all financial data.
- Prepare monthly management reports in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Investigate and respond to audit and parliamentary queries in coordination with the Chief Finance Officer.
- Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the Financial Management Manual and related operational policies.
- Ensure continuity and improvement of systems supporting financial data integrity.
- Comply with statutory obligations, accounting standards, organisational policies, and whole-of-government financial management frameworks.
- Demonstrate accountability, professional integrity, and adherence to ethical standards and codes of conduct.
