Team Leader - Gippsland Regional Livestock Exchange

Position No. 859

Permanent Full Time

Band 6 $89,780 - $97,724 (negotiable) yearly, plus 12% statutory superannuation

Wellington Shire Council has an exciting opportunity to appoint a Team Leader at the Gippsland Regional Livestock Exchange (GRLE).

GRLE is a modern saleyard hosting weekly, fortnightly and monthly sales. It is well situated in central Gippsland within the Macalister Irrigation District and close proximity to productive agriculture land and major road networks. It has recently experienced a jump in throughput and has four livestock agencies operating from the yards. It is operated by a small team who are committed to providing high standards of service.

The desired candidate must be a capable leader, resilient, demonstrate how they will maintain high standards in key areas of responsibility including operations, animal welfare and continue to build positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, supervising staff, responding to any biosecurity events, budgeting and maintaining a safe workplace.

Key responsibilities include:

- Experience in cattle handling, droving, drafting and processing, leading and training staff, complying with OHS and managing budgets.
- Knowledge of saleyard software systems, sales processing and reporting, and scales operation,
- Experience in developing and reviewing saleyard procedures and practices including maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to positively represent GRLE to a range of stakeholders including livestock transporters,



agents, vendors and buyers.
- Practical knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice within the saleyard industry including NLIS data base and animal welfare.
