Courts Innovation Program (CIP)
CIP is a business area within the Magistrates Courts Service (MCS), that manages and supports a number of specialist courts and court programs located at 16 locations throughout Queensland.
These programs are primarily designed to respond to the needs of people, including vulnerable people and people with multiple and complex needs, who interact with the justice system.
Through our programs, we collaborate and coordinate with stakeholders with the aim of providing support through the court process and linking people to health and community services, to respond to risk and address the underlying causes of offending. We also work to provide culturally appropriate responses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the court process.
Four teams in CIP (Indigenous Justice Programs, Specialist Courts Referral and Support Services, DFV Court Program, and Policy Research and Evaluation), supported by the CIP Business Team, work closely to develop, deliver,



and support creative justice responses.

Policy, Research and Evaluation
The Policy, Research and Evaluation (PRE) business unit consists of two components: Policy; and Research and Evaluation. PRE is responsible for providing strategic advice, conducting research and analysis, and developing options, policies, strategies, and initiatives for specialist courts and programs in Magistrates Courts, including Murri Courts, the Queensland Drug and Alcohol Court, Court Link and Specialist Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Courts.
The team is also responsible for planning, guiding, undertaking, and managing research and evaluation activities in addition to data and performance monitoring and visualisation for CIP specialist courts and programs.
