Location: Sydney CBD + WFH (hybrid)
Assignment Duration: 3 months from start date with potential to extend
Pay Rate: $680 per day + Super
Hours: 35 hours per week (7 hours/day)
Join a high-performing government legal team undertaking significant workplace health and safety prosecution matters. This is a 3-month contract with strong potential to extend.
About the Role
You will manage a diverse portfolio of prosecution matters arising from workplace incidents, assessing evidence and determining whether breaches of the WHS Act have occurred. Matters range in complexity and scale, with most progressing to the Industrial Court and some to the District Court.
You will work closely with Legal Counsel, preparing preliminary legal advice, reviewing briefs of evidence, and drafting key court documents including statements of fact and summonses. This role requires sound judgement, solid litigation capability, and the ability to handle regulatory matters end-to-end.
What You’ll Be Doing
Managing litigation and prosecution files from intake through to hearing.
Reviewing briefs of evidence to identify potential WHS Act breaches.
Drafting statements of fact, summonses, and related court documents.
Liaising with and briefing Barristers, providing transparent preliminary advice.
Navigating regulatory and investigative matters, including those similar in nature to Land & Environment Court work.
What We’re Looking For
3–4 years’ post-admission experience as a Solicitor.
Strong background in litigation; prosecution experience (e.g. ODPP) highly regarded.
Exposure to regulatory or enforcement matters.
Ability to assess complex evidence and make sound recommendations.
Confident communicator who can work collaboratively with Counsel and internal stakeholders.

Hybrid Working Model
Office days are Tuesday and Thursday, with flexibility to work from home the remaining days. Court appearances are accommodated with flexibility as required.
