We are seeking a skilled and experienced Workshop Leading Hand to join our team in Coolaroo, Australia. As the Workshop Leading Hand, you will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing team members, and ensuring the efficient completion of projects while maintaining high-quality standards and safety protocols.

What you’ll be doing:

- Provide support to the Workshop Supervisor to ensure the effective delivery of Servicing and Maintenance of council fleet.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of the Council's Fleet Maintenance operations and implement comprehensive mitigation strategies to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and policies, while also protecting the Council's assets and reputation.
- Proactively identify and implement best practices, processes, and technologies to optimize workshop parts inventory and service programs, ensuring that all the Council's equipment is consistently maintained and readily available to meet operational needs, while also reducing costs and improving efficiency.
- Regularly report on the status, performance, and outcomes of the Servicing and Maintenance program, and identify areas for improvement and cost savings, and make recommendations to management accordingly.
- Ensure that programs developed adequately meet all statutory and governing requirements i.e. Chain of Responsibly, as specified for maintenance services.
- Take full ownership of inventory control, developing and implementing robust systems and processes to ensure that materials and resources are readily available and managed effectively,



reducing waste and maximizing cost-effectiveness.
- Support the Fleet Workshop Supervisor to develop staff so they can meet their individual goals, develop skills, and effectively deliver services.
- Take a hands-on approach to developing and training technicians, providing personalized mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge they need to perform their tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Manage and oversee the implementation of comprehensive Health and Safety systems and Workshop Procedures to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.
- To assist the Fleet Workshop Supervisor in the operations of Council’s workshop ensuring the provision of services in a safe and effective manner.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

- Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S;) legislation.
- Proficient understanding of and demonstrated ability to use specialised workshop equipment for servicing plant and equipment.
- Developing and implementing training programs for Fleet Mechanics to ensure that they are adequately skilled to carry out their duties and to keep them up to date with the latest industry developments.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse, diagnose, and determine solutions to problems relating to plant and equipment requiring repair or maintenance in a proficient manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization, including managers, coworkers,



and customers.
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff, including the ability to provide coaching, feedback, and support to staff to achieve their full potential.
- Experience in the application of Quality Accreditation systems for plant and equipment.
- Experience in the statutory and governing requirements relating to Vehicles, Plant, Equipment and Fleet Workshops.

Required Certifications & Qualifications

- Post trade qualifications (Motor Mechanic), garbage compactor technology, or related discipline/s.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
