Founded by surfboard shaping icon Bob McTavish in 1962, McTavish is a surfing lifestyle brand born out of Byron Bay, Australia. Today, alongside son Ben, they draw on almost a century of shared design experience to handcraft a unique range of surfboards, and a premium gear range with the sole goal of inspiring you to spend more time in the ocean — because we always bring the joy of a surf in with us onto land.
Who We Are After
We’re searching for a Casual Retail Sales Assistant with the creativity and energy to help build a surf community hub alongside our Retail Manager. You’re naturally at home with people, quality products, and surf history — and you understand that great customer service builds trust. You’re hands-on and lead with action.

- A product expert who lives and breathes surfboards, apparel and hardware
- Customer-focused; always improving product knowledge and service
- Articulate communicator (in person and in writing)
- Commercially savvy and comfortable closing a sale
- Relevant combination of education, experience and training
Responsibilities
Customer Experience
- Welcome every customer with genuine hospitality — less “sales,” more “host”
- Share product knowledge with confidence and authenticity
- Create a relaxed, inspiring store atmosphere through music, conversation, events and storytelling
- Support store events (in-store and off-site): setup, pack-down, staffing
- Know our full range of surfboards and gear — and be excited to talk about it
- Merchandise the store to keep it fresh, clean, and aligned with the brand
- Share product stories with customers — especially our surfboard heritage
- Use the gear when possible so you can speak from experience
- Assist with curating 3rd-party products (local and surf-lifestyle brands)
Stock & Systems
- Help manage in-store stock levels and restocking
- Support surfboard inventory uploads; ensure accuracy in Cin7
- Coordinate with the factory and team to ensure custom orders are built to spec and on time
- Join a heritage surf brand known for quality, and help shape its future
- Ongoing development opportunities aligned to your interests
