Position
We are seeking an individual with strong analytical capabilities and a passion for the Seafood Industry to join our team as a Research and Policy Officer. This is a recent position created to support the Senior Fisheries Resource Access Officer and the Senior Fisheries Policy and Strategy Officer.
Responsibilities
- Conducting qualitative and quantitative research and analysis on complex fisheries issues, identifying trends and evidence-based solutions.
- Drafting high-quality policy documentation, including briefing notes, submissions to government, reports, and correspondence for the CEO and Board.
- Engaging and consulting with internal team, external industry partners, stakeholders, government agencies, and NGOs.
- Monitoring and evaluating policy effectiveness and contributing to the development of new strategies that support a safe, environmentally responsible, and profitable industry.
- Undertaking research and industry engagement to formulate informed positions.
Essential Skills
- Policy Analysis: Proven ability to analyse complex policy issues and provide strategic recommendations.
- Research Skills: Ability to independently conduct research and gather relevant data to inform policy decisions.
- Effective Communication: Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey information clearly.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Possess strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and other relevant parties.
- Analytical Thinking: Proven ability to analyse data, identify trends, and assess the potential impacts of policy changes.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Highly Desirable Skills
- A demonstrated ability to analyse, digest and understand complex legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of Western Australia's commercial fishing industry.
Essential Qualifications
Tertiary education in a field that fosters strong analytical, research, and communication skills applicable to policy formulation and analysis. A foundation in economics or public policy highly regarded.
