About the team

Situated within the Planning, Regulation and Services Gold Coast department, the City Activation branch is responsible for developing the City’s standards and local laws and issuing of City enforced permits to residents and organisations, planning and delivering key Council events and programs, and activating community recreational spaces including playgrounds, green spaces and outdoor sports and recreation activities. The Licenses and Permits business unit is responsible for facilitation, assessment and issuance of permits/licences/approvals across multiple services including:

- Events
- Film productions
- Temporary road closures
- Advertising devices
- City Laws approvals
- Environmental Health permits
- Trade waste
- Parking
- Asset protection

About your recent role

We are currently recruiting a Construction and Development Approvals Leader who will be responsible for a team who issue licences, permits and approvals across multiple services.

The Construction and Development Approvals Leader will lead a team of officers responsible for the assessment of applications, expertise and decision making under delegation.

Reporting directly to the Coordinator Construction and Development, this position liaises with a wide range of Council personnel, government departments, external organisations and services, developers, event organisers, as well as Gold Coast residents.

Key Deliverables of the position:

- Create a positive workplace culture by encouraging constructive collaboration to achieve positive City outcomes.
- Under limited direction, exercise managerial responsibility of the team to establish and coordinate work priorities and undertake workflow monitoring of licence and permit applications during the assessment process to ensure timely decisions are made in accordance with the relevant legislation.
- Supervise,



develop and motivate staff within the team, with an ability to provide expert advice, set and monitor outcomes and establish procedures.
- Monitor, review and drive activities for the team, reporting key milestones, anomalies, variances and solutions.
- Assist in the coordination of the licence and permit function, shaping its future direction, contributing to operational plans and achieving City objectives.
- Provide regular, independent judgement on complex/high risk application issues within the team.
- Develop and review work operational practices and procedures to ensure compliance and alignment to operational outcomes.
- Drive and lead a high level of customer service by fostering and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
- Thorough and detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant State Government legislation, Local Laws and Council Policies.
- Provide specialist technical and professional advice to a wide range of council personnel, Government agencies, organisations and the community to facilitate the approval of licences and permits.

- A proactive and passionate leader who has a proven track record of coaching and mentoring a team.
- Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills ensuring consistency and clarity of advice.
- Highly developed analytical, problem solving and investigative skills with the ability to provide sound advice, options and recommendations to influence positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to form good working relationships with key stakeholders and service providers, both internal and external.
- A preparedness and commitment to undertake continuing professional development (CPD)
- Drivers licence class C unrestricted.
