At Like Family, we connect caring, reliable people with local clients who need support. We call our Support Workers 'Social Carers', because the work is about more than just tasks — it’s about reducing loneliness and helping people enjoy life together.
What You’ll Do
As an independent contractor, you’ll get to:
✅ Provide companionship and join clients on outings (movies, concerts, fishing, etc.)
✅ Support skill-building (e.g. learning to use public transport)
✅ Help with meal prep, light exercise and healthy routines
✅ Assist with errands, appointments and transport
✅ Offer light cleaning and gardening to make life easier
✅ (Optional) Provide Personal Care (e.g. toileting, showering, mobility or medication support) to clients who require it
Who We’re Looking For
You’re patient, reliable and enjoy helping others. We welcome all backgrounds, especially those with experience supporting people with:
✅ Mental health & neurodiversity - Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Anxiety, PTSD, Depression, Schizophrenia
✅ Disabilities & other conditions - Intellectual Disability, Chronic Pain, Developmental Delay, Speech or Communication Impairment
What You’ll Need
✅ The right to work in Australia + 100 points of ID
✅ An Australian Business Number (ABN)
✅ COVID-19 double vaccination or approved exemption
✅ NDIS Worker Screening Check or Police Check
Nice to have (but not required):
- Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Aged Care or similar
- Driver’s Licence
- First Aid Certificate

Pay Rates
Social Care (companionship & community support)
- $46/hour weekdays
- $63/hour weekends
Personal Care (toileting, showering, mobility, medication assistance)
- $50/hour weekdays
- $67/hour weekends
Rates increase if you support multiple Members in the same booking (e.g. $81/hour for 3 Members on weekends). See our full rates page for details.
