- Permanent, full-time role

- Remuneration circa $120k + super, according to experience

- Canberra based, with flexibility for 1-day WFH per week.

CBR Recruitment is delighted to partner with RSL Australia, a leading voice for veterans (both current and former serving ADF members) and their families. RSL Australia works on behalf of the independent State and Territory Branches to shape policy, legislation, and the national agenda on veterans’ affairs with the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders. RSL Australia also advocates to ensure the needs of veterans and their families are met, and their voices are heard at a national level.

About the Role

Reporting to the Policy and Government Relations Advisor, this role is at the forefront of advocacy and policy development, preparing high-quality briefs and submissions that influence outcomes for veterans and their families. The Policy Officer works closely with a diverse range of stakeholders including the RSL State branches, and the Marketing and Communications Team, and synthesises research to ensure the policy agenda of RSL Australia reflects the voices of its stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop clear, accessible policy briefs and submissions for leadership and members.





- Translate legislation and complex research into practical recommendations.

- Collaborate with a small, supportive team to deliver shared priorities.

- Monitor sector developments and legislative reform.

- Engage with stakeholders to gather insights and shape policy direction

- Facilitate policy discussions to ensure veteran voices shape the National policy and advocacy agenda.

- Provide secretariat support for the National Veterans' Affairs Committee.

What You Will Need (selection criteria)

- Proven policy experience, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent work experience.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience developing policy submissions, briefing documents and advocacy materials.

- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships and navigate complexity with government and community partners.

- Great time management and professional discipline, and the ability to work autonomously.

- The ability to contribute to a team-oriented team to deliver shared priorities and outcomes.

- A strong understanding of defence and veteran services (desirable).
