The Company
Robert Half are partnering with an established Australian retail organisation that is seeking an experienced IT Systems Administrator to join on a 6-month contract. They're looking for someone who can start almost immediately.

The Role
You'll be joining the Infrastructure team as a Systems Administrator on a 6-month contract. In this role, you'll maintain, support, and enhance the company's IT infrastructure across the business.

You'll manage networks, user accounts, servers, cloud platforms, and business applications-ensuring systems run efficiently and securely. You'll troubleshoot technical issues, provide user support, and work closely with the wider IT team to implement new technologies and drive ongoing improvements across the environment.

Responsibilities:

- Configure, monitor, and maintain network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs-Fortinet, Meraki, Ubiquiti).
- Strengthen and maintain network and system security through firewalls, access controls, monitoring, and incident response.
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, storage, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and virtual environments (VMware/Hyper-V).
- Perform system backups, patching, updates, and routine maintenance to keep systems secure and running smoothly.
- Provide technical support to end users, resolving hardware, software, and access issues.
- Manage user accounts and permissions across Active Directory, Entra, and other business systems.
- Maintain accurate IT documentation, including configurations and network diagrams.
- Monitor system and network performance,



proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Collaborate with IT teams to implement recent technologies and ongoing improvements.

Requirements:

- 5+ years' experience in a Systems Administrator or similar technical role.
- Hands-on experience with FortiGate firewalls.
- Strong understanding of network protocols, infrastructure design, and security principles.
- Proficiency in administering Windows and Linux server environments.
- Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies, particularly AWS and Azure.
- Solid grasp of core networking concepts, including firewalls, switches, routing, and VPNs.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently and efficiently.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
