Rockhampton Girls Grammar School is one of the original eight Grammar Schools of Queensland. Opening in 1892, Girls Grammar has served and supported the education of girls and young women for over 130 years.

THE POSITION
Rockhampton Girls Grammar School invites applications for a passionate and dedicated Head of House.
Position Title: Head of House (Onsite residential position available)
Department: Boarding
Reports to: Principal
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Head of House is an essential member of the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School Leadership team with delegated responsibility for overseeing all aspects of Boarding at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. The Head of House reports directly to the Principal, works collaboratively with the Executive team and is responsible for the organisation and strategic leadership of the Boarding Department and Boarding Facilities.
The focus of the Head of House is both strategic and operational in nature, with primary responsibility for the leadership, management, administration and oversight of one of Rockhampton Girls Grammar School’s two boarding houses, with the care, safety and wellbeing of boarding students the prime consideration.
The Head of House provides strategic direction and leadership for all aspects of the boarding program, working in close partnership with the Boarding Operations Manager to ensure operational efficiency, compliance, and a positive boarding experience for all students.
The Head of House will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be accessible to all members of the Girls Grammar community. They will work collaboratively with colleagues, including but not limited to the Principal, relevant members of the Executive Leadership team, Middle Leaders, Teachers, School Counsellor, School Nurse, Indigenous Liaison Officer, Indigenous Education Officers and all Boarding staff to best meet the individual needs of students.
The Head of House hours will align with the operational needs of boarding, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnights and some weekends. The Head of House is a hands‑on role, requiring the successful candidate to be on the roster, modelling expected routines for boarding staff and providing a supportive, structured environment where every student is known and feels a strong sense of belonging.
Hours and Conditions
- 48 hours per week during term time
- Up to 25 hours per week on a rostered basis
- Mandatory attendance at Professional Development days
- May be required to attend Executive days throughout the year
There are two Heads of House:
- One for Jackson House (Junior Dormitory)
- One for Kollar House (Senior Dormitory)
Together, they must work in close partnership to ensure a consistent and unified approach to boarding across both houses, fostering a safe, structured, and supportive environment where every student is known and feels a strong sense of belonging.
Onsite accommodation in a fully furnished unit is available to the Head of House. This is not mandatory but is the preferred option.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a current Blue Card from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian.
- Hold a current Driver Licence.
- Prior experience in a leadership role.
- Have comprehensive understanding of student pastoral and wellbeing issues, and relevant state and national legislation, and their implications for school leaders, teachers and students.
