**An exciting opportunity to join our Industrial Transformation Training Centre in the capacity of Laboratory Officer, where you will act as a liaison between governing regulatory bodies to ensure faculty compliance across all activities.**

The Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology (SET) holds an outstanding reputation for teaching, research, and quality graduates. Comprised of eight schools, 21 centres and five institutes, the Faculty of SET is responsible for teaching over 8,500 students across our three campuses, North Terrace, Waite and Roseworthy, and has an annual budget of $300 million. The mission of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Future Crops Development is to train a new generation of researchers equipped with skills in socially responsible crop genetic technologies, leadership, education and training relevant to Australia’s agri-biotech sector. The Training Centre aims to build new capabilities for agriculture and global food security through socially responsible genetic and field technologies for future crops. The Centre is funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and our academic, agri-tech research and industry partners for five years.



It connects ANU and The University of Adelaide with over 20 industry and research organisations to train a new generation of researchers and practitioners in the development and implementation of socially responsible gene and field technologies for future crops, to drive growth, productivity and competitiveness in Australian Agriculture.

Working under the general direction of the ITTC Deputy Director - Industry, the GMO Laboratory Officer will liaise with governing regulatory bodies, such as the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) and the UoA Institutional Biosafety Committee, to ensure compliance with OGTR licences across all Faculty activities. The position will also draw on government, industry and university insight and the training centre’s leadership team to drive the transfer of research into tangible outcomes for industry. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for providing compliance and stewardship advice to staff and students at the Training Centre’s UoA node. The incumbent will be responsible for undertaking ITTC audits, monitoring and record keeping for GMO activities and formulating reports. The GMO Laboratory Officer will also assist in the growing and monitoring of donor plant material for plant transformation, as well as primary transgenic plants, and assist the ARC Centre for Future Crops Development’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow with plant transformations when required.

** To be successful you will need**:





- Sound knowledge and experience of relevant biosafety legislation, OGTR requirements, GM stewardship programs and the Biosecurity Act.
- Demonstrated ability to generate and grow GMO or genome edited crop plants.
- Demonstrated experience with growing plants under field conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a range of university academics and research staff, enabling them to meet their regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining record management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
