About Us

The Aboriginal & Islander Independent Community School, known as the Murri School, is an independent school established in 1986 out of the vision of Indigenous community members who saw the need for an Indigenous-owned and controlled school. The school has a total enrolment of approximately 280 students in Prep to year 12. This unique P-12 Indigenous learning environment is located in Acacia Ridge, 13 kilometers from the CBD.

About the Position

The Murri School is currently seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated High School Teacher who is committed to excellence in the classroom to join our close-knit community school. This is a contract for the 2026 school year (with a possibility of extension and permanency). The subject areas include core junior high school subjects and some internal relief teaching. The exact role can be further explained in the contact details below. It is remunerated according to the Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School Inc. Enterprise Agreement.

The successful applicant must have:

- current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers

- knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum and experience with planning learning experiences using the Australian Curriculum





- strong literacy and numeracy teaching practices to deliver quality learning experiences for the students

- an ability to identify and cater for different learning styles

- the knowledge and skills to make adjustments to the learning workplace to meet the needs of students with a disability

- an ability to work in partnership with colleagues, students and parents/carers

In this role, you will be expected to:

- Create a nurturing and ordered learning workplace which is learner centered, supportive, cooperative and aligned with relevant curriculum policies, documents and practices.

- Collaboratively develop and implement quality curriculum programs using evidence-based pedagogy.

- Proactively engage with professional renewal practices to enhance student outcomes; and

- Work with the leadership team, teachers and other staff members in contributing to the cultural and community life of the school.
