Primary objective
The Senior Business Manager provides strategic and expert leadership, policy advice and financial management support to the principal
and staff of the school on all corporate matters including provision of financial and human resource management, policy implementation,
streamlining of systems and processes, facilitation of services with centralised service providers and high-level reporting and analysis.

Context statement
Stuart Park Primary School is a Preschool to Year Six school situated close to the Darwin CBD. It has an enrolment of approximately 550
children. Children live in the surrounding area.



The school places a solid focus on academic achievement and providing all students with
a rich and engaging learning experience with specialists in the Physical Education, Digital Technology and Science. The school has a global
budget and determines how this resourcing is allocated. They choose the number, level, and mix of staff in their school, and manage this
within their available vacancies and budget. This results in increased complexity in the business and administrative support functions that
support the school’s leadership team in the overall management of school resources.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level policy advice, or where relevant, facilitate appropriate policy advice, on all corporate matters for the principal and

staff of the school, including financial, budgetary, and human resource management and policy implementation issues.
2. Provide high level leadership of appropriate corporate and business support services systems and non-teaching staff that provides for

cost effective, timely and appropriate service delivery, addresses all policy imperatives, and drives performance reporting and analysis.
3. Provide strategic and operational leadership on staff training and recruitment in partnership with central service providers. Provide

administrative support services within the school.
4. Manage an ongoing program of continuous improvement for corporate support systems and processes including proactive data

collection,



analysis and performance monitoring and reporting.
5. Provide direction and negotiate with departmental managers, directors, and staff to coordinate delivery of business services and

support achievement of school and departmental strategic objectives.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to analyse and provide high level advice on business support activities including financial and human resource

management, budget development, policy development and implementation, financial analysis, and performance reporting to facilitate
efficient and effective program delivery.

2. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and communicate.
3. High level adaptability, flexibility and resilience including demonstrated ability to manage pressure and lead change in an environment

undertaking change, and to modify approaches to suit different people and situations.
4. Demonstrated extensive experience in management of a business support service delivery team including management and

coordination of staff, resources, records, and assets.
5. Understanding the complexities of cultures and contexts, the ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and ability

to maintain integrity and confidentiality.
6. Proven experience working within a large, urban educational context including providing guidance for a school-based out of school

hours care program.

Desirable
1. Knowledge of the operations of the Department or ability to learn these in a timely manner.
