About the team
The Council Business Governance Officer position is part of the City Secretary business unit within the Office of the Chief Executive Officer. The City Secretary plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless Council operations, providing high-level governance advice and fostering productive relationships with Councillors, executives and external stakeholders. The City Secretary leads initiatives that elevate the quality and consistency of Council reports and ensures all meetings and decisions comply with legislative obligations. The Council Business Governance Officer reports to the City Secretary,supporting the delivery of the outcomes listed above.
About your new role
We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Council Business Governance Officer to provide expert governance advice and drive continuous improvement across Council and committee meeting processes. This role is critical in ensuring legislative compliance, high-quality reporting and strong governance outcomes for our organisation and community.
We're looking for people who have:
- Experience working in a governance, compliance, legal, or corporate administration setting, ideally within government.
- Strong knowledge of legislation, meeting procedures, governance frameworks and decision-making processes.
- High-level written communication skills with the ability to prepare, edit and review complex reports or documentation.
- Proven ability to deliver process improvements and implement governance or administrative frameworks.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to provide specialist advice to senior leaders and elected officials.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency in systems such as Infocouncil, or the ability to quickly learn current technology platforms.
- Bachelor's degree in business management or equivalent knowledge
