Join our multidisciplinary AODS team and play a key role in reducing the harms associated with alcohol and other drug use across North West Queensland. In this community-based role, you’ll deliver evidence-based assessment, treatment, counselling, and harm-minimisation support to individuals, families, and groups. You’ll collaborate with a broad range of community partners, contribute to prevention and early-intervention programs, and help drive meaningful behavioural and health outcomes for the region.
About the role
As an AODS clinician, you will deliver client-centred, culturally responsive care and support a wide range of community programs that promote safer, healthier lifestyles.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver evidence-based assessment, counselling, and harm-minimisation support.
- Manage a wide-ranging caseload with high-quality, professional documentation.
- Lead community engagement, education, and group programs that promote safer choices.
- Contribute to key AOD programs including Pharmacotherapy, NSP, and Diversion services.
- Provide early intervention for clients diverted from the justice system.
- Work collaboratively with government and community partners through consultation liaison.
- Mentor students and early-career clinicians through supportive supervision.
- Help shape service improvement, planning, and quality initiatives.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and CALD communities.

Requirements
- Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences.
- Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
- This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A / B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
- Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check; from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position.
- A period of probation may apply.
