Primary objective
Under the direction of the Team Leader support the provision of services to vulnerable children and their families residing
in remote communities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist other Department of Children and Families workers and clients/families communicate with each other.
2. Under supervision provide and/or support the provision of, casework services that address child safety concerns. This
includes the provision of cultural advice and advocacy.
3.
Provide information, assistance and/or practical and other support to clients and their families to access local services in
relation to child safety concerns.
4. Undertake a variety of administrative duties to ensure accurate client records.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to speak one of the Aboriginal languages used in the local community and ability to speak and write English.
2. Have detailed knowledge of the family groups and relationships within the community.
3. Ability to understand and communicate the work of Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities to local
families in the local language.
4. Ability to provide cultural advice and work within the context of the Department’s legislative mandate to keep children
secure from harm.
5.
Demonstrated ability to advocate on behalf of clients to ensure culturally safe service provision.
6. Ability to work with others to address concerns about the safety of children.
7. Understand and demonstrate a commitment to privacy principles and confidentiality of client information.
8. Possess basic computer skills and have the ability to perform basic administrative duties.
Desirable
1. A current NT Driver’s licence or ability to acquire within the first year.
2. Ability and willingness to travel away from home by 4WD or light aircraft, including overnight stays, when required.
