We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.What You'll Be DoingThe Department provides a range of Cytogenetic/Cytogenomic testing services.
The purpose of the role is to perform cytogenetic, molecular cytogenetic and/or molecular genetic investigations employing a variety of techniques, including tissue culture, chromosome preparation, banding, karyotyping, fluorescent in-situ hybridisation (FISH), QF-PCR, chromosome microarray, and/or other molecular diagnostic techniques.
The source of material used for testing may be human cells or DNA from blood, bone marrow, pregnancy tissue, solid tumour, other human tissues, or formalin fixed archival tissue.
Additional techniques will include bright- and fluorescent microscopy, automated digital image capture and computer-assisted karyotype analysis, with scope for potential involvement in other molecular diagnostic tests in the longer term; e.g.
Fragile X testing.
