**HEAD OF STRINGS**
**REPORTS TO **Director of Music
**DIRECT REPORTS **String Teachers
**KEY RELATIONSHIPS **Head's of School Other Heads of Departments
**PURPOSE **To lead and promote the growth of strings at Lowther Hall
**KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**
- Oversee String Program and Instrumental Program (Strings) in consultation with Director
- of Music and Head of Junior School Music- Actively promote Strings within the school
- Direct and conduct ensembles
- Take responsibility for Strings curriculum and repertoire
- Manage staffing for ensembles (conducting, assisting tutors)
- Oversee recruitment and allocation of ensemble members
- Plan and conduct rehearsals and performances
- Oversee all Strings related events,
meetings and concerts
- Set agendas, run and minute meetings involving all Strings staff
- Communicate with Strings students/staff/parents
- Take responsibility for Strings instrumental inventory and repairs
- Proofread all Strings reports at scheduled times throughout the year
- Assist in the planning and implementation of the Instrumental Music Program Years 3-8
- Play an active role in the planning of public performances such as the annual 'Evening of
Song', Annual Music Concert, Eisteddfods, Winter String Festival, workshops, annual
Music Camp and possible tours for the Ensembles.
- Involve Lowther Hall Strings students in the School and wider community - external
concerts, Eisteddfods workshops
- Invite professional performers to the School and organize performance and workshops
- Liaise and communicate with the Director of Music, Head of Junior School Music, Heads
of Instrumental Departments, Administrator and Music colleagues, as well as members
of the wider school community
- Assist the Director of Music for School Musicals (Junior and Senior School)
- Other duties as directed by the Director of Music
**OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Establish conditions for learning that are student-centred, incorporate a diversity of
- approaches and promote the achievement of excellence;- Follow the curriculum, teaching and learning, and assessment and reporting policies
- and practices of Lowther Hall- Implement the pastoral policies and practices of Lowther Hall in accordance with
- school policy- Engage in child safe practices in accordance with the School's Child Safe policies and
- procedures- Utilise appropriate technology in the teaching and learning of music
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, student performance and progress
- Provide progress reports on individual students from time to time
- Work in a team in the Music Department
- Monitor,
record and report, both verbally and in writing, on the progress of each
- student- Dress and present in a professional manner that accords with the School's
- requirements- Ensure that the diversity of all children, including (but not limited to) the needs of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically
diverse backgrounds, children with disabilities, and children who are vulnerable needs
are met
- Understand and comply with Child Safety Standards
- Comply with Occupational Health and safety requirements

**TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS**
- An understanding of the Lowther Hall context
- An appropriate undergraduate study/qualification
- A current and appropriate VIT/WWCC registration
- Willingness to undertake a National Criminal History Record Check upon appointment
- An understanding of child safe standards
- Current Level 2 First Aid and CPR Certificate - with a commitment to on-going training
- Current anaphylaxis management qualification
- Current asthma management qualification
- Evidence of being fully vaccinated in relation to COVID-19 or that you have obtained
certification from a medical practitioner that you have a medical contraindication to the
administration
