To maintain high standards of management practices that ensures the safe and secure management of prisoners whilst providing opportunities for rehabilitation, through effective supervision and prisoner management.
**In this role, you will**:
- Ensure compliance with any conditions imposed on the possession licensee by the Chief Executive of Queensland Health and with those stated in the Radiation Safety Act 1999 and the Radiation Safety Regulation 2021.
- Develop and review QCS's Radiation Safety and Protection Plan to ensure it continues to be effective.
- Provide or arrange for state-wide training about radiation hazards and safe working practices as required by the QCS Radiation Safety and Protection Plan.
- Examine the area radiation monitoring device assessment results to ensure compliance with limits prescribed by the Radiation Safety Regulation 2021 and are as low as reasonably achievable.
- Conduct radiation safety assessments and surveys under the QCS Radiation Safety and Protection Plan.
- Ensure all body scanning and X-ray equipment across the state complies with the relevant radiation safety assessments and the premises in which they are used continue to comply with radiation safety standards.
- Identify ways to minimise the radiation dose people receive from the radiation source.
- Assess requests from a scanned person to be excluded from a body scanning examination, ensuring the person's human rights are considered.
- Report the effectiveness and compliance with the QCS Radiation Safety and Protection Plan and make recommendations to increase the effectiveness of the plan.
- Provide strategic advice to Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations, and other QCS Executives on operational security and emergency management matters.
- Provide a high level of security and emergency management advice to the Chief Superintendents of correctional centres to assist in maintaining the safety and security of centres.
- Provide expert evidence-based advice to internal and external stakeholders on all aspects of planning, development, and implementation of QCS emergency management framework.
- Provide strategic oversight and governance for the centre-based emergency management teams, including recruitment, training, and continuous improvement activities.
- Develop strategic relationships and engage with other Government departments to build QCS' statewide emergency management capability and readiness.
- Develop and drive innovative initiatives to continuously improve security and emergency management operational practices.
- Provide advice regarding the coordination of statewide emergency management.
