We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Head of Power Operations On Grid to join us in our Power Team in the Operations Division. This is a permanent full time position and can be based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne.
Reporting to the General Manager Power & Electrical Transmission, you will play a key role in leading the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of APA's on-grid power assets, ensuring strategic alignment,
operational excellence, and stakeholder value delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead safe, reliable, and efficient operations of APA's on-grid power assets, fostering a high-performance, safety-first culture.
- Manage operational budgets and ensure delivery of P&L; targets and risks across the portfolio.
- Oversee asset strategy, third-party contract management, and integration of new assets.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, specifically regulators, strategic customers, and suppliers.
Industry Experience
- You will be an experienced leader in the energy sector, particularly in electricity transmission and renewables for on grid operations (ie WEM/NEM), having managed medium to large-scale operational teams and complex energy infrastructure assets.
- Areas of operations will include renewable energy, grid stability, and energy transition technologies
- In-depth knowledge of asset management principles and practices,
as well as familiarity with the latest technologies and innovations in the energy industry
- Regulatory Compliance and Budget Process: Understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and best practices in the energy sector to ensure all work complies with legal and safety requirements. Detailed understanding of the RIT-T process to ensure our assets meet the NER economic cost-benefit tests.
Leadership
- Demonstrated success in leading multidisciplinary teams in high-risk, regulated environments.
- Strong track record in P&L; ownership, budget management, and cost optimization.
- Demonstrated success in developing High Performance Teams supported by a strong safety culture.
Technical & Strategic Skills
- Deep understanding of operational risk, HSEH frameworks, and compliance standards.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement, asset integration,
and business continuity planning.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to align operations with broader business goals and energy transition objectives.

Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems) is essential.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Business Administration is required.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering Management or Leadership are advantageous.
