About the Department for Correctional Services

The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and fifteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Our vision is for a safer community by protecting the public and reducing re-offending. About the role

The Department are currently looking for their next new Senior WHS professional who can deliver high level advice, direction and operationalising of work health and safety systems at the Department. Working with a driven team filled with leading safety and infrastructure professionals, this is your opportunity to make a difference to South Australia. The work undertaken by the Safety Systems team contributes to rehabilitation through safety in correctional practices and the psychosocial environment across the work place.

With the team in a stage of re-development in safety operations,



this an exciting opportunity to shape the functions of work health and safety within the Department and build a lasting legacy in the correctional field. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in managing work health and safety systems, high level of autonomy and knowledge in functional work health and safety practices with the ability to install success in their work. With a focus on risk management, team development and designing systems, the role operates in a meaningful and educated manner contributing to personal development and growth.

Duties

The Senior Work Health and Safety Consultant is accountable to the Team Leader, Safety Systems, for the effective development, implementation, management and monitoring of the Work Health and Systems across the Department for Correctional Services (DCS). The Senior Work Health and Safety Consultant will also be required to monitor,



in consultation with local WH&S; Co-ordinators and Managers, activities and programs and initiate strategies, policies and procedures for the prevention and management of workplace health and safety within DCS.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that DCS complies with relevant legislation, standards and best practice principles with regard to work health and safety.

Special Conditions

- Section 47 of the Public Sector Act 2009 applies in conjunction with other provisions of the act and other applicable industrial entitlements.
- The incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History Check;
- A current South Australian Driver’s Licence is essential;
- A flexible approach to working hours is required;
- Some intrastate travel will be required which may necessitate overnight absences.




- The incumbent is a member of the Corporate Services Directorate and will be required to visit multiple sites.

Requirements

Essential: Nil

Desirable: - Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment
- An appropriate tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety Lead Auditor
- Formal Incident investigation training
- HACCP Awareness — HACCP Codex Alimentarius Method

ASO6 ($98,478 - $104,165 pa)
