**Career Medical Officer - Emergency Medicine**

**Lismore Base Hospital & Richmond Network**

The CMO will be responsible with providing independent, high level medical care, including the assessment, investigation and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. They will be supervised by specialist staff and provide supervision and support to the Junior Medical staff in the Emergency Department.

This position also serves to support the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) or Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD)



through the Australian College of Emergency Medicine.

**Where you'll be working**
Lismore Base Hospital is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service and is an acute referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy Emergency Department (41,000 presentations annually & 55 beds/treatment spaces), 12 bed ICU and 6 bed Coronary Care Unit.

The Ballina District Hospital (BDH) sees over 14,000 presentations per annum. The Emergency Department is a 9-bed unit staffed by a highly qualified medical team of Career Medical Officers, Emergency Specialists, and Nursing staff providing care to patients of all ages with critical and acute illnesses.

After a recent $312 million renovation, the new health facilities allow for contemporary models of care that clinicians and staff are excited to deliver in their local community. We provide a wide range of medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties, as well as the majority of specialty services.



LBH plays an important role in providing high level specialist services on a regional level, including (but not limited to):

- Access to a formalised Retrieval Service providing service over a 300km radius.
- Specialist emergency and elective surgical services including Vascular and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery.
- Renal Dialysis and Renal Dialysis home-based training.
- Diagnostic and interventionist cardiology.
- Adult Mental Health Unit
- Child & Adolescent Mental Health Unit.

LBH is an affiliated teaching hospital for medical students from the University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of Western Sydney, University of Newcastle, Bond University, University of Queensland and Griffith University. The hospital has a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Junior Medical Officers.





Our region encompasses World Heritage listed rainforests and the pristine beaches of Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head and Byron Bay. **What you'll be doing**

Providing independent, high level medical care, including responsibility for the assessment, investigation and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department and admitted to inpatient wards. The CMO will be supervised by specialist staff and provide supervision and support to junior medical staff in the Emergency Department.





The position also serves to support the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) or Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) through the Australian College of Emergency Medicine.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role (please address these in your response)
- A minimum of 3 years of postgraduate experience, including extensive, recent experience in emergency medicine / critical care medicine
- Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
- Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management




- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education
- Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support with ability to perform ALS procedures (including endotracheal intubation and insertion of central lines, arterial lines and intercostal catheters), interpreting patient history, physical examination, pathology, ECG and radiological investigations to diagnose simple and complex Emergency Medicine presentations
