We are seeking a values-driven After Hours Community Support Worker reporting to the Community of Support Team Leader.

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

Flagstaff and The Open Door residential facilities are part of The Salvation Army Homelessness Stream and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. The two sites provide 101 beds in total for males experiencing homelessness with multiple and complex needs.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven After Hours Community Support Worker reporting to the Community of Support Team Leader. The Community Support Worker participates in the day to day operation of the facility, including providing individualised support to residents.

You will successfully
- Assist with the development of personal skills
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and residents




- Complete administrative duties including reports, update records and case notes
- Work collaboratively with the Community of Support and Case Management team to provide a high standard of care to residents across both sites

This is a full-time fixed term position for 3 years. Current roster is as follows:
3:38PM - 11:14PM Monday to Wednesday

8:16 AM - 3:52 PM Saturday and Sunday.

You will have
- Tertiary qualifications in social work, mental health, community services or a related field
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work sensitively with people of diverse cultures, abilities, ages, sexualities and gender identities
- Ability to respond to unpredictable situations and behaviours using de-escalation techniques
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and take safe and appropriate action for critical incidents




- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care, person-centred and strengths-based approach
- Prior experience in residential facilities is preferred, but not essential
- A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
- A current and valid Employee Working with Children Check
- Ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in Australia
